PCC Orphan Sunday Video

Remember the orphans. Pomona Christian Church's Orphan Care ministry purpose is to help unite children with welcoming families, to encourage families to consider foster care, to assist area foster and adoptive families with any needs they might have, to provide information on child sponsorship, and to pray for families and children in need. We hope to awaken the church to the biblical call for Christians to care for the orphan.

Colorado 2010 - Kansas Is So Fun

We left at 8:30 this morning and enjoyed a bit of a gale between Abilene and Russell. Luckily spending 20 minutes putting all of our luggage in the back of the truck in garbage bags warded off any rain for the day. We stopped at a rest area for lunch and couldn't put anything down on the table - or it would blow away. Guess we won't be moving to western Kansas anytime soon. I like rest areas. Any place I can stop and use a bathroom - that is usually clean - and avoid the large displays of candy goodness that make the kids cry and whine get a gold star. Kansas rest areas only get 3/5 stars. (Not enough toilet paper, to much wind, need more trees) We stopped at the Sternberg Museum of Natural History in Hayes, KS. This stop was well worth the $36 for our family of six to get in. The dinosaur exhibits were life size and lifelike, Claire was really, really nervous about them. She kept asking me if they were real. They had a super croc exhibit - Kendell decided to get a super croc and put it in our bedroom. Then he is going to sleep inside of it so the kids can't find him. Anyway, I can't imagine what the kids would say if they saw this croc - It was huge - walking out of the swamp to come eat them. We leave in the morning from Goodland, KS. Hopefully we will be in Estes Park a little after noon.

A Brief Review of My Dominican Trip!

I put a slideshow together to present at my parent's church. The members there graciously contributed cash which paid for all the medications I purchased for patients on this mission trip. They would otherwise not have been able to afford their medicines. The diseases we treated are very similar to anything we would see in the US. We saw a lot of high blood pressure, diabetes, strokes, constipation, worms, skin infections, and arthritis. The people were very grateful for whatever we can give them. The other part of our group helped dig the foundation trenches for the parsonage that is yet to be built and also worked on painting and fixing ceilings at the church. We hope that our mission there is to not only provide some much needed medicine and exams for people and some hard physical labor, but also to encourage the locals to attend the church which helps us throughout our stay. Thereby learning about Jesus (and we all know why that is important for eternity). The church has true devotion to God, an unbelievable dependence upon prayer for their needs, and very active church members whom we are growing to know and love. We hope that we can continue bonds with this congregation for a very long time.

Sunday in the Dominican

We are resting after church - The service here last 2 hours - which is surprisingly OK. Tonight we go to a church plant in the Haitian community were we had a clinic on Friday. We have seen about 60 patient's so far. Many have diabetes and hypertension, and many just want a pill of any type. We have seen a few people who are very obviously ill and need labs and further evaluation at a hospital - which they won't be able to afford to get. The people here are so friendly and nice and we remember many of them from last year.
The bright spot on the trip so far would have to be the beginning of the first flight. When the pilot announces, we are having a little engine trouble and we are going to have to pull back to the gate and try a manual start - nothing inspires confidence in a plane like knowing that there is engine trouble. Nevertheless, we arrived at our destination alive. I will post photos when we are home - I can't download from here.

The plan was to go and see "The Lightening Thief". However - my little angels did not do as they were told. The new rule is I will give you one warning and then privileges are lost. Unfortunately for me - that means I don't get to go either - I was not happy. So the naughty ones and I stayed home and played Go Fish, Pictureka, and Connect Four. They had to go to bed at 8:00 while their brother and sister went to the movies and had popcorn, candy, and soda. Poor babies, I hope they have learned their lesson - I want to go somewhere next time! (P.S. Thank you to Kevin Leman and Have a New Kid By Friday)

Happy 8th Birthday Jessie

A full day of fun and frivolity - A trip to the skating rink followed by a viewing of The Spy Ne*t Door. I do have to mention that it almost cost the same to rent the entire skating rink for 2 hours as it did to take just our 4 kids to the movie. That is disturbing!
